Billie’s Big Show Adventure

Unsure Somali kitten in groom space at cat show

Last we left Billie*, she was at the cat show, wondering what came next after the strange person (my human) made her do selfies. By the time my human arrived, Billie and her brother had already been in half of the day’s rings. It was the very first show for both of them.

Billie’s brother was a natural in the ring.

He’s a curious and playful boy, just like his dad Chilly.

And like his father and uncle, Riser, he is a bit of a nut.

Although Billie is a stunning kitten, she was much shyer around the judges, and just about everyone else except our breeder. She was definitely unsure of my human, who had to figure out how to win her over.

Then she found the secret weapon.

My breeder always brings a selection of toys to shows. This one was a winner.

Billie started to realize that this show stuff could be fun! By the end of the show, my human had her running around in circles in the grooming area.

In spite of her shyness, Billie’s beauty couldn’t be denied. In all but one ring, she got the Best Somali kitten ribbon over her brother. He mostly got the orange and white second place ribbons. Not that he cared — either way, he would have tried to trash them. Neither of them made any finals this show. Since it was their very first one, it wasn’t expected anyhow. But as the two of them mature, they will be contenders!

In case you were wondering, Vana was there too, and she did get finals — five out of six rings, in fact! My human was so busy with Billie that she did not have time to take any photos until the end. Aren’t these ribbons cute, with their rubber duckies? This show always does something unusual with the ribbons.

* In case you are wondering, Billie is named after jazz singer Billie Holiday. Her registry name is Tajhara Dressed to Chill. Her brother is Tajhara License to Chill. They are both blue Somalis, which is the dilute version of my color, ruddy.
