Great… and Not Quite Grand

somali cat posing in front her enclosure at cat show

I had a great weekend at the San Diego Cat show, but it sure was exhausting! I think I must have been petted by hundreds of people. Everyone, without exception, commented on how soft my fur is. Plus I probably did High Fives and handshakes about a hundred times.

I did wear some dresses, like this one, and yesterday’s, but everyone was so taken with my natural beauty that my human let me go dress-free most of the time. In case you are wondering, I only rang the bell a couple of times. I’m still not that great about doing it in public.

I got a big Pet Me! banner for my benching space… people still asked permission to pet me, but the answer was always yes.

Next to my enclosure, my human and my breeder set up a small breed booth. Some of the materials included little pamphlets about Somali cats. The people who visited me picked up all of the pamphlets before the weekend was over! Fortunately, the information booth humans had more. I’m sure all those people wanted them because they were so impressed by me.

A couple of times, when I started to lose steam, my human put the harness and leash on me, and we went for a walk! That always energizes me. I always drew a crowd when I was out. I keep looking on Instagram for photos of me, but so far no luck.

If I was really, really tired, my human just let me rest and took a break herself. But sometimes, she just let people reach in and rub my tummy while I was napping. I liked that a lot!

Two somali cats in a cat show ring

You are probably wondering how my half siblings did at the show. It was a very competitive show, so both Sizzle and Vana had to look their best to be noticed! And they did and they were! (Sizzle is on the left and Vana is on the right.)

Sizzle and Vana traded off being Best Somali in the rings, but Vana got more Bests. Sizzle still impressed a lot of judges with his awesomely deep color.

Vana’s cool demeanor often made the judges smile. Yes, she is making air biscuits here.

Sizzle got the highest ribbons out of the two of them — a Best Shorthair Champion, and a Best Allbreed Champion, in one ring! He is only a few points away from earning his Grand Title.

That first day, Vana didn’t do much, but on the second day she finaled in every ring! Considering that there were so many cats entered, and lots of them were the breeders’ top cats, that is pretty impressive.

Look at all those ribbons! Vana is a month younger than Sizzle, and wasn’t as far along getting points, but she made some this show! There is a very good chance she will earn a Grand title too. That’s harder for a female to do because when they go into heat, it’s tough keeping them in show condition. And Vana is getting to be about that age. My paws are crossed for her to get that title.
