Is a Yeast Infection Transferable From Pets to People?

If you have been wondering if yeast infection is transferable from pets to people the answer is: yes, indeed. Probably, you know there are several diseases humans catch from pets. But, nevertheless, we still enjoy their company and loyalty and we love and care for our pets very much.

Most pets carry different types of infections, some can be easily transferred to humans, while some aren’t. Anyway, if you are the owner of a pet or are thinking of getting one there are some things you should know to prevent yourself from catching any disease your pet may be suffering from.

Yeast infection is the most common infection on humans, mainly because a certain amount of yeast is normal in our healthy body. Pets carry yeast as well, so it’ not abnormal for a pet owner to catch a yeast infection from their pets.

Is There A Way To Prevent It?

The fact that it’s clearly stated that yeast infection can be transferred from pets to human doesn’t mean it’s not preventable or that you’ll need a different treatment for the infection. In fact, you just need to know about this disease and what steps to take to prevent the yeast infection.

First and foremost, you should be careful when handling the animal, and while there are certain limitations – licking is definitely not healthy – there are just a few rules to follow: always wash your hands with soap after contact, avoid licking whenever is possible and if not, wash the area a well, check your pet for anything weird, make your children do the same, and of course, routinely take your pet for check ups. If your vet tells you your animal is infected, and you happen to be infected too, the animal needs to be treated as well, to cure it and to prevent future re-infections. There’s no point in you getting rid of yeast infection if your pet still have it.

Yeast infection is transferable from pets to people because the fungus that causes the infection is the same and its presence is normal in both healthy humans and pets. This fungus, called Candida Albicans is in a delicate balance with the normal bacteria in our bodies. If a sudden chemical or hormonal imbalance happens or if we’re overexposed to the yeast fungus we may develop an infection, and animals too. All you have to do is to pay special care in their handling to keep them and you in good health.
